Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Château de Pez has an attractive blackberry and cedar-scented bouquet, the oak nicely integrated here with hints of marmalade and orange peel in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, a little forward and "flashy" in style, not complex but with decent depth on the slightly one-dimensional finish. I have a feeling this has more to offer down the line, hence the plus sign against my score. Tasted January 2016.
88+ points from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The Château de Pez winery remains resolutely faithful to wood. The blend is composed in December, then the wine is stored in barrels (40% new wood, 40% in "Premier vin" casks and 20% in "Deuxième vin" casks) and racked every three months. It is to be noted that the wine undergoes absolutely no filtration.
Château de Pez exhibits deep colour and harmonious composition. This complete, rich, dense wine merits prolonged ageing.
Thanks to the quality of its production, Château de Pez is counted among the most highly reputed crus of the Médoc.
