Wines of Ornellaia
Poggio Alle Gazze 2013
Sauvignon Blanc’s celebrated aromatics are clearly on display, with classic note of citrus, tropical fruit, and broom blossom, lifted by a subtly sweet florality. Crisp and vibrant on the palate, it offers fruit that is notably vivacious and self-confident. Quite rich and with good weight, the impressions of sweetness derived from the sur lie maturation are in admirable balance with the zesty acidity, which drives a mineral-laden finish of impressive length. This is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Viogner, 12% Vermentino, 7% Verdicchio.
Le Volte 2013
This is a young red with solid tannin power and plenty of ripe and flavorful fruit. You will taste plenty of currants and ripe strawberries. This is a full-bodied wine of great inner freshness and aromas. This is 50% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
92 Points from James Suckling, 90 Points from Robert Parker
Le Serre Nuove 2013
The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove is a generous blend of 32% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 12% Petit Verdot. The wine presents an intensely drinkable style with soft fruit nuances of cherry, spice, grilled herb and leather. The integration of those aromas is absolutely seamless. In the mouth, Le Serra Nuove is soft, lush and beautifully persistent.
94 Points from James Suckling, 92 Points from Robert Parker
Ornellaia 2012
The 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spices notes. The palate is well-rounded, full, and generous, with glossy tannins and a complete absence of any roughness. The 2012 lacks none of the proverbial concentration that distinguishes Ornellaia’s, great vintages, but this vintage adroitly masks that richness behind an expansive, magisterial structure, then concludes with a near-endless finish. This is 56% Cabernet, 27% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot.
