VINEYARD NOTES
The Martin Stelling Vineyard, located behind the winery in Oakville, is the
cornerstone of Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted on some of the most beautiful,
gravelly loam soil in the Napa Valley, the vineyard uniformly produces wines
with supple tannins, bright, forward fruit, and beautiful tannin structure.
HARVEST NOTES
The 2018 season started out with dry conditions and low snowpack in January,
but February and March brought heavy and much needed rains. While budbreak
and flowering were a bit later than in the previous few vintages, the moderate
spring weather ensured an even set and healthy crop. Mild temperatures continued
through summer with warm, sunny days coupled with cool nights and foggy
mornings. The vines ripened slowly, allowing each cluster to reach optimal flavor
maturity. Our Oakville harvest began just at the end of September and continued
steadily through October, with the last of our Martin Stelling Vineyard blocks
coming in at the end of the month.
TASTING NOTES
Generous aromas of blackberry, chocolate covered cherries and espresso give way
to a full midpalate filled with black cherry and berry flavors, accented by dusky
dark cocoa and toffee notes. Fine-grained tannins offer structure from start to
end, with a velvety finish layered with ripe, lingering black fruit flavors.
