Tortochot Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux 2018 750 ml

Three types of Premiers Crus (first growths) are to be found around Gevrey-Chambertin. The most famous ones are draped over the Cote Saint Jacques (as it was called in the 19th Century), a cote (or hillside) that begins at la Bossière, at the start of a coomb, and stretches as far as Les Champeaux, adjacent to Brochon. Another string of vineyards is to be found lower down on the hillside from the Grands Crus. Finally, the best parcels of wine producing land around the alluvial cone, at the lower end of the coomb, also live up to the name of Premiers Crus. Nature has bestowed on Gevrey two of the most well-equipped wine making areas on the Cote de Nuits. This very specific area of the vineyards (known as a climat) endows wine that is made here with a unique character. These vineyards' aspect is due south.

This Premier Cru is situated on the Cote St. Jacques. Its aspect is due east, ideal for the Pinot grape. These particular vineyards are less well known than the twenty-four other Premiers Crus, but despite this produce a wine possessed of an excellent pedigree and an ability to be kept over a period of years that ranks alongside that of Grands Crus.
